When…

shikungigi

It’s been a minute.

Shikungigi.com turned one on 23rd, but I could not celebrate because I am normally completely drowned in work till it’s Friday evening. And that’s why I am so glad May 1st is on a Friday. Somebody say oh yeah!

When all you can do is write Facebook updates, more than you have ever written in your mid-20s,

When your domain turns one, and you can’t even celebrate,

When your favourite artiste releases an album, and you can’t stop talking about it,

When you realize you are vulnerable enough to fall for a phishing attack,

When your customers make you smile,

When M-Pesa keeps going down,

When you have no content for your blog. Or too much that you end up not having one conclusive idea,

When you are multitasking, with an equally hyperactive partner in crime,

When everyone thinks someone in your life is something else other than what they are,

When you need to make a decision and have made it but don’t want to admit you have,

When you help someone build something up, while neglecting your own thing,

When that actually feels nice,

When you wonder when you will ever be sure,

When you sit in bed, about to watch a movie, but this Word doc has been open on hibernate so long, you feel guilty. I have been lazy on the writing side, clearly. Not because nothing is happening, but because a lot happens every day. That’s the interesting thing about my job, story for another day. Plus that’s the reason I will have an autobiography in the future. For now, all I can tell you is, take a chance. Read a little more. Don’t flow with the I-don’t-read-because-of-the-digital-age crap. That is the weakest excuse if you ask me. You probably never read even before this age. I used to be like that until I realized the very digital era could help me read better.

Having said that, I realized I haven’t really preached this month. Epic fail. So let me do a sermonette. I stole this term from my 16 year old brother. He is Busherian. You know how Busherians (male version) love making their English sophisticated? Yep. Some things never change. Anyway, I have been listening to a couple of new tracks. Namely KB’s Tomorrow We Live and DJ Dolls 2015 mix. So, the album is based on 1 Corinthians 15:32.

If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Think about it. If you we do this all for nothing, if we have no hope of that eternal life, then there’s really nothing to gain. But if we believe, tomorrow we live!

Music

In the middle of my DJ Dolls Kikuyu mix, there’s a song I’d never heard before by Ben Githae – Nindarega Guthimwo. People at home know I cannot stop yapping about it. It’s based on Zechariah 2:1-5. A story I had never known existed until I listened to the song. Now you can see why I gave up on local gospel songs and reverted to good ol’ Kikuyu songs. I am telling you most of these singers are serious and actually preach through their songs.

1Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 I asked, “Where are you going?”

He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is.”

3 While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him 4 and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’

Refuse to be measured by the standards of this world. Do not conform. NOTW.

The end.

May 1st, the first post on this space went up. Maybe you may want to revisit, just in case you missed it the first time, here you go. Meanwhile, let me see where I can get my mojo back.

Happy long weekend!

  1. Refreshing read, a nice one and honest. I can read between the lines… and btw I did not know Dr Dolls has mixtapes I should look for that 2015 edition

  2. Thanks for the link, enjoyed it too Sunday night to cap my Youth week… First time ever I’ve had Youtube playing for more than an hour with a static picture – but twas worth it.
Hehehe everybody seems to notice that quote, means a lot… “When everyone thinks someone in your life is something else other than what they are…” I sort of related it to a FB post you had….
