Repackaging: making something more efficient and attractive. I heard about this concept last week, one we call ‘Information Week’ in our faculty. I acquired edifying information from one particular guest. An information professional who lost his job recently and repackaged to become a consultant in the field.

In today’s dynamic world, repackaging yourself is a vital skill. Seeking job security is human. Being stuck in a comfort zone is usual. Most of the time, we are afraid of what will happen if we step out of these zones.

Often, I am afraid of trying. What if it does not work? But I forget that I could ask, what if it works? Fear gives a small thing a big shadow. I have nothing to lose by trying. What if life was like a downhill journey all the way? That would be pretty boring. A roller coaster ride is more like it. Sometimes we are up, sometimes we are down. (I hope I get onto one of those things one day.)

When life deals you a blow, do not sit and mope about it. It is time to repackage. Adjust to the new situation. It is true that good things come to those who wait. But you can do something while you wait. KPLC cuts the power, take a walk or read a book. You graduate and no job is forthcoming, volunteer somewhere.

What did I do after the words of wisdom? I took a step.

You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.

Little men with little minds and little minds and little imagination jog through life in little ruts, smugly resisting all changes that would jar their little worlds. ~ Anonymous
