What Are You Thinking?
Of late, I have been thinking about thinking. What it is. What it entails. What it leads to.
One thing I am sure about though is that everything I do is premeditated. No matter how fast I respond, it is my brain that tells me what to do. Even when you say ‘I don’t know what I was thinking’ or ‘I did not have time to think’, you still thought.
At the risk of sounding philosophical or even stupid, I believe that this is why we are told to think twice about crucial issues. Meaning you can do something stupid because you thought once, not because you did not think at all.
Even here in cyberspace, I came across this interesting statement, ‘Google before you Tweet is the new think before you speak’. Got me laughing but also made me think. Back to square one.
Thoughts are results of what we see, hear, feel and store in our brains. We process that in our own way and give it out through our actions and speech. We are always thinking, I believe. Even the thoughts we push away still come back somehow. Elias Canetti once said that ‘all the things one has forgotten scream for help in dreams’.
Sometimes I dream inexplicable stuff but in the long run, they turn out not to be so inexplicable after all. Like having a dream of Bradley Cooper talking to me in a place that looks like my room is definitely a result of my unrealistic crush on him. Or a dream of me getting caught in some crime of some sort roots from my imagining such a scenario and pushing it away or ultimately, too many movies and series.
Most of the time, I will dream of what I do not want to dream of. It’s like Leonardo DiCaprio gets into my head or something. Back to me and my movies. For a moment there, I even had a flashback of Source Code.
My point is dreams, thoughts and actions are intertwined. This post was as a result of thinking which was brought about by the dreams I have been having that have a similar storyline. I say storyline because I place dreams next to movies in the surreal events in life. Both of them take you to another world. A better or worse one depending on whether it is a nightmare or horror movie respectively.
You want to stop thinking about something or someone. Quit trying. The more you try, the more you are actually thinking about them. Find something else to think of. Fill your mind with things that you will want to think of.
Eventually, you will never do something you had not toyed around with in your head. Keep thinking. Keep dreaming. Keep doing. As usual, I am still thinking.

nice post…good job. Dreams are the only things that can make people realise things they like, loath or pretend not to care about.
